THE STAR 102.5 SHINING STAR
Wednesdays * 8:10 am * Star 102.5 FM

*They don't come much cuter than MICKEY MOUSE!! This 5-year-old, 8-lb. terrier mix is a bundle of fun, falling in love with everyone he meets!
*Mickey doesn't exactly play hard to get as he drops to the floor soliciting belly rubs. He so enjoys being around people that he just doesn't know what to do with himself!
*In the past, Mickey has exhibited some low-level separation anxiety issues. Well of course - he loves people so much, he can't bear to be away from them! However, we have found that having another dog around makes all the difference to little Mickey, and with a canine buddy, he doesn't feel so alone and abandoned when his people can't be with him! So we are REQUIRING Mickey go home with another dog!
*Of course, as with any situation that includes a new dog going to a dog-occupied home, the SPCA recommends a MEET AND GREET session, giving the two a chance to get to know each other here on neutral territory.
*Learn more about Mickey by calling Krissi at the SPCA: 716-629-3531!
*Meanwhile, still available is last week's media darling:

*FIGGY is a sweet, shy, tiny Chihuahua/Yorkie mix currently living in an SPCA volunteer's NEW LEASH ON LIFE home.
*Figgy and other "new leash" dogs can't handle kennel life well, so we place them in the homes of loving volunteers, who work with the dogs. The dogs' collective quality of life is much better...that keeps the dogs happy and healthy...and in turn, they are better adoption candidates!
*Two-year-old Figgy is very, very, VERY shy at first. Once he begins to trust his humans, he's happy and wiggly (note the blurry, wagging tail in his photo, above!). But it takes time with this little one. People looking for a bond that forms in a moment won't find that with Figgy....it takes him a bit longer...but for someone who has been waiting for a dog that "really needs" him or her, this is the one!
*Work a bit with Figgy at home, and you'll see what we mean! The bond that will eventually form with him will be so deep and strong, you'll see why we needed to make special arrangements to find this boy a wonderful home!
*To arrange a meeting with Figgy, call our New Leash on Life hotline: 716-609-0189, or call Gina at the SPCA and she'll connect you with the right folks: 716-629-3505.

SEE MY VIDEO - CLASSICAL MUSIC SUITS ME!
*URSULA: I'm a 5-year-old Pit Bull Terrier, and I promise you, I will be the life of the party! Looking for a little laughter in your home? Let me brighten your days
and warm up your nights!!
*I came to the SPCA from West Seneca, and I have to admit...as nice as they are here at the SPCA, and they're giving me a lot of attention, I was pretty much
used to having my own space and making my own decisions. My friends here say they can tell by how I act. It's a little difficult being in a kennel when I'm
so busy trying to please my people, so staff and volunteers at the SPCA have me out as much as possible!
*Come to the SPCA to meet me and you'll see for yourself what a living doll I really am!!!
*During the SPCA's campaign, BRED TO LOVE, designed to educate people about my special breed, you should bring me home and tell the whole world what I was bred to do! Let me give you a couple hints: I was bred to....give hugs, play with you, curl up on your lap, give you kisses when you need them, steal the best spots on the furniture, go for long walks to get some of my girlish figure back, and love you with my whole heart and soul especially when you're having a bad day.
*I'm living at the SPCA's Tonawanda shelter! Please meet me today, or call the SPCA Adoptions Department for more information on me: 716-629-3507 or
716-629-3531!

*CHIPPER is only about 5 weeks old, but boy, does he have a story to tell.
*This little doll came in as a stray after being attacked by a dog in a yard. Talk about trauma....little Chipper experienced it all.
*We thought we'd be able to save Chipper's back right leg, which was severely mangled. Our veterinarians thought that a pin would work and he'd manage fine thanks to his young age. However, once surgery started and they actually got in there, they saw what the Xray didn't show...the top of the leg was completely shattered beyond repair. The only option was amputation.
*Well, Chipper is only 5 weeks old. Talk about adapting to life on three legs! Within a day, we had to FORCE cage rest because he was jumping, running, trying to play....the soreness of an amputation wasn't enough to phase this energetic kitten!
*Right now Chipper is on pain meds, antibiotics, and other meds. We expect him to make a full recovery and be placed in a home as soon as he's old enough!
*How were we able to afford to do all this expensive work for this little sweetheart and for thousands of animals over the last several years? Why, because of our Yelp For Help donors of course, who donated specifically towards these animals who need emergency veterinary care!
*Can you help us care for Chipper and animals like him with emergency veterinary needs? BECOME A YELP HELPER right here! You can also make a one-time donation, or give by phone by calling Nancy at the SPCA: 716-629-3523!

2 THE RESCUE
Fridays * 5:15 am & 11:15 am * WGRZ-TV Ch. 2

*KING: Looking for his new castle is this sweet Staffordshire Terrier mix, King!
*King is 1 1/2, and is all puppy. He has a huge heart for loving, a long tail for wagging, expressive eyes that take in all the world...he is energetic, fun, friendly, and playful!
*A harness and some training consistency is all you'll need to help King fit right in at your home! Come visit him at the SPCA's Tonawanda shelter and be prepared to LOVE HIM!!
*Meanwhile, still available is this darling from a couple weeks ago....

*I'm 2 1/2, but as petite as a kitten, if I may say so myself! I'm ANNIE, and I'm here at the SPCA ready to meet you!
*Believe it or not, I was brought to the SPCA as a stray back in November. The person who found me was interested in adopting me, but realized I had some ... well, to put it in ladylike terms ... intestinal issues. After spending $300 at her veterinarian to try to help me (but to no avail), she realized my diarrhea (there, I said it) may be too costly to fix, so she brought me here to the SPCA.
*The SPCA did a lot of work on me, but could find no reason for my special problems. Maybe it was nutritional? Maybe stress? My friends here put me in a loving volunteer foster home in December, with the goal of trying a few things to help find answers.
*Thankfully, it looks as though my problem could be cured nutritionally...simply by feeding me one certain food, and keeping treats to a minimum...and if stress was playing a role before, it isn't anymore. I've been bounced around so much in the last 5 1/2 months, but right now am pretty docile, loving, cuddly, and I ADORE being held.
*Now I'm back at the SPCA's 205 Ensminger Rd., Tonawanda shelter, happy, healthy, and looking for springtime love.
*BY THE WAY, if you saw Friday's "2 The Rescue" segment, you saw Kevin and me in the SPCA's Petique! There is some beautiful merchandise there, especially new spring things to enhance your yard and garden! Get hours, contact information, and learn all about what we carry in the Petique (especially some great cat toys!) here!

ADOPTION FEE WAIVED!

*As TS Eliot reminds us, "The naming of cats is a difficult matter" ... especially with a cat as magical and particular and dignified as this week's shining star. MUFFIN JOE seems to be a name that suits this unique boy perfectly!!!!
*Muffin Joe is just 4 years old, but all cats 3 and older enjoy a waived adoption fee....and Muffin Joe is no exception! So for an adoption fee of $0, you get this loving, affectionate, sweet boy to fill your spring and summer with love and laughter!
*Muffin Joe was part of a 32-cat rescue in Cheektowaga last month. We know he gets along with other cats, and with a little time and patience, this handsome, little man will be curling up on laps and sleeping on beds with his favorite humans!
*Visit Muffin Joe at the SPCA's Tonawanda shelter! For more information, call Gina at the SPCA: 716-629-3505!

else I have in common with my namesake? At the right time of year (not in March, of course!) people think snow is beautiful...and they look at ME and call me beautiful too!! I'm a sweetheart, full of love, ready to play with you and then cuddle up for a long night's sleep.
